Jokari, a corporate client of Davison Design and Development, challenged our Inventionmen™ to innovate one of the company's top selling products. Although sales were good, the company wasn't capitalizing on volume due to poor profit margins.
Davison Design and Development's Inventionmen quickly identified the BagStor's large undercut and backing that increased mold costs, weight and manufacturing time. Using Davison Design and Development's Inventegration® process, Inventionmen determined that removing the backing would eliminate undercut, making the process of injection molding quicker, cutting material costs and production time. In addition, they redesigned the front of the BagStor, opening the middle of the product, so it was easier to add or remove bags. The Inventionmen also created two fastening methods for the BagStor - screws or adhesive tape. The product was designed so it could nest/stack on a peg hook or shelf at the point of sale, as well as in the standard packaging Jokari was using.
Shortly after completing our design, Jokari created a stainless steel version to meet the higher, designer price point, effectively helping gain additional shelf space. The end result was a simple design that increased profit margin, and updated an existing product.
