Over the last ten years, the scooter has made a significant comeback. With this in mind, a Southern California client hired Davison Design and Development to streamline the manufacturing process of his own hybrid bicycle-skateboard. While many patents already existed in this competitive market, Davison Design and Development's Inventionmen™ met our client's challenge.
Following thorough research and testing, a strong frame with minimal weld points was designed. It combines a bicycle fork and handlebars on the front with a skateboard deck and trucks in the rear. The Inventionmen designed a frame that splits into two pieces, without sacrificing strength and design integrity, to keep manufacturing costs low and to fit a standard box for shipping purposes.
Through Davison Design and Development's Inventegration® process, the Inventionmen realized the potential for an entire line of BikeBoards. The Cruiser contains special trucks giving it a fluid motion when carving. The freestyle was created for the BMX enthusiast with pegs and handlebars that rotate 360 degrees. The Tyke and Mini, however, were created when one of our Inventionmen was working on another youth skateboard project and decided to make a mini BikeBoard prototype out of a child's bike and a small skateboard. It was such a hit within our facility that it was presented to our client as part of the line. Since then, the BikeBoard has grown into its own, winning a 2006 international Industrial Design Excellence Award, cosponsored by the Industrial Designers Society of America and BusinessWeek.
